Satoshi, the first name of the pseudoanonymous developer of bitcoin, but that’s not all. It also defines the number of decimals of an amount of bitcoin. One Satoshi equals 0.00000001 BTC. The number of Satoshi makes it easier to define smaller numbers of BTC and other crypto’s. On the right an overview shows the decimals up to and including 1 bitcoin:
